July 21, 2016  - Today, club members Rob, Ken, Machel, Doug, and Dave spent a few hours at the Kyrene Resource Center filling backpacks for kids for the coming year.  We also spent time  transferring food from boxes to shelves and then packing food bags. These food bags will be available to needy families in the area. Our club is hoping to increase our participation with this very worthwhile charitable organization.  We had an enjoyable time together at lunch afterwards.

 June 27, 2016 - Today was the last day of President Dave Kline's term of office. A big thanks to Dave for stepping up to the presidency for a second time and providing strong leadership throughout the past year.  Great job Dave !! 

Doug Bock is taking over as President for the coming year.  Doug ran several meetings during June in Dave's absence and is fired up and ready to go!  The club is ready to move forward with our programs under Doug's able leadership. Excelsior!

 June 27, 2016 - Tom Hickey, a founding member of this club, told us about his experience as a Rotary Exchange Student in Finland. He got off to a shaky start and wasn't at all convinced that his trip to Finland was such a good idea.  Tom told us of many humorous incidents during the trip and shared some priceless photos with us. The 17 year old in the photos was a far cry from the Tom we know today.  Even with some of the difficulties Tom faced, he believes his experience was very beneficial and helped shape his life. Tom made a very strong plea to have our club become more active again in the exchange program. He is a firm believer in the value of the program.

 June 20, 2016 - Lori Regnier of the Starbright Foundation gave us an intensive and disturbing view of the problem of child sex-trafficking in the Phoenix area. Most of the population seems to be in denial of this serious problem in our midst. The Starbright Foundation's mission is "to rescue children and young adults from human sex trafficking and modern day slavery, as well as other dangerous and abusive environments..." They provide many services associated with this mission.  Check their web site. Lori gave us many graphic examples of the problem and the need to provide much more education to the community, especially to young girls who are the principal targets. Social Media is a tool being used by predators to lure these children away.  We all need to pay attention to and be aware of this reprehensible activity in our midst.
