Aug 31, 2015 - Our past president, Harry Short, described a community service project he is developing. The project involves the United Food Bank, which provides thousands of pounds of food to needy families in an area of Arizona that covers the approximate area of District 5510.  He would like to establish a regular project that would involve several local clubs - members and families - that will pack food for distribution from the main United Food Bank warehouse. Besides providing a vital service, Harry hopes that by extending the project to include families, and providing lots of publicity, we will make Rotary more appealing to a wider and younger audience.  The first session will be Saturday November 14 at the United Food Bank warehouse. Aug 31, 2015 - Melissa Charles, principal of desert leadership, spoke to us today about conflict resolution. Melissa has a background in banking and explained that she has experienced conflict in all aspects of the enterprise. She said that 85% of all people are involved in some form of conflict or another at the personal, workplace, community, national, and global level. Most of this conflict is disruptive rather than cooperative and results in thousands of hours a year in lost productivity.  She gave us several examples and described methods by which conflicts can be resolved. It is important to remember that communication and trust are at the heart of successful conflict resolutions.

Aug 24, 2015 - Harry Short was given a plaque today to acknowledge his service as president of our club during the 2014-2015 year. But this plaque was more than just that; t was also designed to honor Harry for all his contributions to our club since its beginning over 10 years ago. Here are a few: (1) Harry was a charter member and repeatedly declined the office of president so others would have the chance. (2)  Harry is our club's major contributor to The Rotary Fund and is a continuing member of the Paul Harris Society. (3) He has served as treasurer and developed spreadsheets that we still use today. (4) He received the Cliff Dochterman award for scouting achievements - Eagle Scout, Oof Arrow, and District Commissioner. (5) Harry served as membership chair and has sponsored the most members. (6) He started a hiking group that built friendships in and outside the club. (7) He has been the coordinator with Habitat for Humanity. (8) Harry has 100% attendance and seldom misses a service project. (9) He is our #1 raffle ticket salesman and has strongly supported Microcredit and Childlight. (10) He organized our 10 year anniversary dinner and has included honorary members as active participants in all club activities.  Last but not least Harry is an all around enthusiastic member, a superb role model and great guy! Thank you Harry!

Aug 19, 2015 -Members (Harry, Rob, Doug, Dave, Jeff, Machel and Ken) of the Kyrene Rotary Club volunteered Wednesday morning,  for Project C.U.R.E. at the Tempe distribution warehouse. We also met several new Project Cure volunteers and staff members. We donate our time four times a year to help sort donated medical supplies for Project C.U.R.E. We also help on special occasions to load cargo boxes bound for various foreign countries. We had great fellowship over lunch when we finished the project.

Aug 17, 2015 - Today Susan Iniguez and Jeanine Dougherty from the Roosevelt School District gave us an overview of the district, its history, mission, accomplishments, and goals. They spoke specifically about the Dictionary Project which our club has been involved with since 2008.  Our club has contributed over 8000 dictionaries since that time (WOW). We were very pleased to learn how much this program has meant to the 3rd graders, teachers, and the district administration. After all these years it was great to meet a couple of the people we have relied upon to help set up the logistics each year.  There were many questions and several members stayed late to have further discussions. We definitely increased the bonds between the district and our club.
