TEMPE HISTORICAL MUSEUM
Aug 3, 2020 - Jared Smith from the Tempe Historical Museum told us about the museum and a lot of Tempe history. You can see his presentation by clicking HERE.  .
Jared began his studies at University of Arizona and finished at ASU in 1989. He began as an archeologist, moved into history and then became a historical archeologist, first in Mesa and then in Tempe. He told us how veterans from both sides of the civil war settled in Tempe. An interesting tidbit is that Waylan Jennings began his career at JD's in Tempe. He said that many people in the "wild west" moved around and new each other. He recommended visiting the Museum website which has several major categories to see. He explained the boundaries of Tempe and how they originated. His presentation can be seen by clicking HERE.  The question and answer session can be seen by clicking HERE

CLUB ASSEMBLY

LOST OUR HOME PET RESCUE

July 20, 2020 - Anne Marie Geary is the Philanthropy Officer with Lost Our Home Pet Rescue (LOH) in Tempe. She told us that LOH began as a grass roots organization in 2008. A video of her presentation can be seen HERE
Anne Marie gave us an excellent overview of how the LOH organization started, how it has grown, and where it is going. They provide a variety of services from Keeping Families and Pets Together, Low Income Boarding, Temporary Care Program and a Pet Friendly Rental program. They rely on over 400 volunteers to support all their programs. They are the only shelter in Maricopa County dedicated to rescuing pets abandoned or at risk of homelessness. They also have an adoption program and a Pet Food Bank. They are currently in a capital campaign to raise $2M so they can increase and improve their facilities. Readers are encouraged to visit their website HERE, and watch Anne Marie's presentation HERE.
