MARIA HESSE - POSITIVE PATHS
September 13, 2021 - Maria Hesse, a long time leader in education in the Phoenix area and a Board Member for Positive Paths, gave us a description of the Positive Paths program.  The program supports needy women in the East Valley. She also told us about the upcoming  fund raising Night of Heroes Gala on Oct 5th.
Her presentation can be seen by clicking HERE.
The Kyrene Rotary Club donated $1,500 to help support the organization.  See "Read more"
Club members Wally and Tyler present Maria a check for $1,500.

In response to receiving the club's check, Maria said
"It is with deep appreciation that I accepted your kind and generous donation to Positive Paths today. Thank you so much for caring about the women we are serving in the East Valley and for listening attentively as I shared some of their stories. I was also very impressed with your dictionary program in the Roosevelt School District. You make our community better with all you are doing. Thank you!"

Thank you for supporting Positive Paths!
Your generous donation of $1,500.00 provides scholarship funding to Arizona’s East Valley women from
diverse academic, ethnic, and low-income backgrounds. With your generosity and support, Positive
Paths is able to strengthen the human potential within our community, preparing women for self-
sustaining careers, and securing the development of our future workplace. Your donation helps Positive
Paths:
 Put transformative educational opportunities within reach for deserving women
 Provide mentors to support future leaders, teachers, healthcare providers, entrepreneurs, and business
professionals
 Lay the foundation for resilient, self-sustaining families and community
When Positive Paths started in 2014, we had 5 scholars in our program. This fall we have 39 scholars enrolled
in classes. To date, we’ve had 92 women in our scholarship program, 39 have graduated with degrees in many
varied fields. Thank you for helping us to help these ladies.
We are so appreciative of your generosity and contribution to our fundraising efforts, and in helping us to
change the life trajectory of many women and children in the East Valley. Please let us know how we can
assist you in the future. We love our donors and partners and want to be just as supportive to you as you
have been to us!
Please contact Joyce McKinney at joymck@cox.net or call 480-216-0095 if you have any questions.

BARBERSHOP BOOKS
August 23, 2021 - Anthony and Kim Gathers, owners of AGEEZ Barbershops in Phoenix, told us about the program they are involved in in their barbershops.  The program is Barbershop books. Using this program, and their own ingenuity they are providing opportunities for youth to learn to read and become good citizens.  See their presentation HERE.
They are recipients of a $500 grant from the Kyrene Rotary Club.
See the "read more" section for a picture of a student we are sponsoring this year.
This is their logo. Anthony didn't finish college before becoming a barber but he is now back at ASU to complete his degree. Anthony and Kim are strong believers in education and giving back to the community.
