November 3, 2023 - Doug and Dave, were the first to deliver dictionaries to the Roosevelt School District this year. This was a unique experience because the teacher made a video of the event. Click HERE to see the video.
If you are a busy person who wants to have fun while making a difference, then be our guest for lunch on Monday (not holidays) from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at the Olive Garden. October 30, 2023 - Karen Jayne, Chief Executive Officer of Stardust Building Supplies, gave us a good overview of how her non-profit organization functions. They have a permanent staff but rely on assistance from volunteers. They have been in the Valley since 1997. Stardust is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. They operate two reuse centers for home improvement which sell gently-used, salvaged, and surplus building materials at affordable prices. Additionally, they provide deconstruction services that salvage building materials, divert waste from landfills, and support sustainability in the community. Karen's presentation was well received and generated many questions. Our Kyrene Rotary club will explore ways in which we might volunteer with this organization.
October 15, 2023 - 5 members of the Kyrene Rotary Club and our exchange student, Lotte, labeled dictionaries at Kline's house. The dictionaries will be delivered later in the month to 3rd grade classes in the Roosevelt Elementary School District. The photo shows Lourdes, Doug, and Lotte.
October 9, 2023 - Dawn Hocking, Director of Development for The Centers for Habilitation (TCH), gave us an update on the status of her organization. Our club also presented her with a $6,500 check in support of their programs.
The TCH mission statement is:
At TCH, we support some of the most vulnerable people in Arizona. We ensure the more than 23% of Arizona adults with developmental or physical disabilities have the support and opportunities they need to live life to the fullest. From helping adults with disabilities develop critical life skills to guiding them through career training with the goal of independent employment, we offer Arizonians with disabilities the tools they need to make their own choices, improve their abilities and gain control of their lives.
