Mia explained how the initial goal of the Students Helping Hondurans program was to build or rebuild 1000 schools in rural Honduras. The goal of the Train for Change project is to empower local Honduran teachers through professional development. The objective is to improve the quality of education for 1 million children in the most impoverished areas. Eleven percent of children in Honduras are illiterate. The average attendance at school is 4 years compared to 12 years globally.
